The Vancouver Canucks play professional hockey in the NHL. They play in the Western Conference in the Northwest Division alongside the Colorado Avalanche, the Calgary Flames, the Minnesota Wild, and the Edmonton Oilers. http://www.nhl.com/ice/standings.htm?type=DIV#&navid=nav-stn-div Playing out of General Motors Place, the Canucks have found plenty of regular season success, winning four division championships in the last decade and seven play-off appearances in the same time frame. http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nhl/vancouver/canucks.html Add this to the fact that the city of Vancouver is truly a hockey crazy place, and the result is that every home game since 2002 has been sold out. http://canucks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=39566 The Canucks have a 95% renewal rate on their season ticket packages as well, which means there are only an estimated 150-200 season ticket packages available per year. http://www.seasonticketwaitinglist.com/2009/03/2009-vancouver-canucks-season-tickets.html This has caused the Canucks franchise to establish what they call the Blue Line, which is essentially a waiting list to get those hard to find season tickets. http://canucks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=39566 The team also offers half season, 15 game, or 11 game Ice Paks, for those who can't get full season tickets. http://canucks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?bcid=12 The Canucks have capped their season ticket base at 17,000. http://canucks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?bcid=12 General Motors Place has a capacity of 18,630. http://hockey.ballparks.com/NHL/VancouverCanucks/index.htm The Canucks are among the more expensive teams to watch in relation to other NHL teams. After raising their average ticket prices by 2% for the 2009-10 NHL season, the average ticket price to watch a game at GM Place was $62.05. This ranks Vancouver third in the league for most expensive tickets. (Toronto Maple Leafs is number one, followed by the Montreal Canadians in second.) http://www.fromtherink.com/2009/3/24/809176/keeping-tabs-on-2009-10-ti
Step 1: Joining the 'Blue Line'
Because of the demand for Vancouver Canucks season tickets, the team has set up a waiting list called the Blue Line. You can call (604) 899-GOAL (4625) or toll free at 1-888-4GMPLACE to join. http://canucks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?bcid=12 To become a member of the Blue Line, you must pay a $150 non-refundable deposit per seat (maximum of four) that you wish to reserve. This deposit will eventually be put towards the season ticket package once it's your turn to purchase season tickets. There is also a $50 annual fee to remain as part of the Blue Line. $25 of that yearly fee will eventually be put towards your season ticket package as well. Once you've done this, you are an official member of the Blue Line. Not only do you now have a place in the line leading to season tickets, you get a few other perks, too. You get 20% off of all merchandise at the Canuck Team Store, you will be given the chance to purchase tickets to other selected events at General Motors Place before they go on sale to the general public (in 2008-2009, there were 30 pre-sale opportunities handed out), and you're automatically part of a last minute ticket release club, which allows you first access to any tickets that Ticketmaster releases on game day. http://canucks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?bcid=1 As a member of the Blue Line, you also become part of something the Canucks call the Prime Seat Club. The Prime Seat Club is an online ticket exchange where the regular Canucks season ticket holders can sell their seats to any individual game that they can't or don't want to attend. http://canucks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?bcid=351 If you decide you no longer want to to be on the waiting list, you cannot transfer your place in line to anybody else. You merely take your name off of the list, but all of the fees and deposits you've paid are non-refundable. http://canucks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=40189
Step 2: Half Season, 15 Game, or 11 Game Ice Paks
Just because you're on the waiting list for season tickets, it doesn't mean you still can't see the games. One of the packages offered by the Canucks is a half season ticket. The half season ticket package includes tickets to 22 home games (two of those are pre-season) http://canucks.nhl.com/v2/ext/CSTO/csto_hstpackage.pdf There are other benefits, as well. Buying a half season ticket saves you 24-55% off of the price that you would be paying if you bought single game tickets. Being a half season ticket holder also affords you first guaranteed rights to purchase play-off tickets for that year. As a half season ticket holder, you will also be invited to certain exclusive events, such as the Canucks' Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Event and their State of the Franchise night. You also receive all the benefits mentioned above in being a member of the Blue Line. http://canucks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?bcid=321 The Canucks also offer 15 game or 11 game ticket packages, called Ice Paks. (Each Ice Pak contains one pre-season game.) http://canucks.nhl.com/v2/ext/CSTO/csto_icepak.pdf Ice Pak members receive 19-34% off of the price that they would pay if they purchased individual game tickets. Ice Pak members also receive most of the perks given to half season ticket holders.
Step 3: Getting Season Tickets
Once you actually get your season tickets, you are eligible for many different perks and extras. For starters, depending on where your seats are, you are paying anywhere from 26-59% lower prices than people who pay to see individual games. Your seats to all 45 Vancouver Canucks games are printed on commemorative tickets. You are also guaranteed first rights to your seats for the NHL play-offs. On top of the other benefits outlined in steps one and two, there is more for the season ticket holder. The Canucks have something called Season Ticket Holder of the Game. At the end of each home game, there is a draw to select a season ticket holder's name who will receive an authentic Canucks jersey autographed by a Canucks player, dinner for two people at the arena's restaurant, a chance to meet with the Canucks coaching staff, and more. Club seat holders also get exclusive rights to buy tickets for any event or concert at GM Place, a dining membership at the Sterling Vineyards Room, in-seat food and drink service, and automatic invites to exclusive events. These events are State of the Franchise, Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Event and Canucks Team Store Holiday Shopping Night. Add all this to more comfortable seating (with drink holders) and a private club entrance with a seated dining and bar area, and you'll definitely be watching the Vancouver Canucks in loads of comfort. http://canucks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=39568
