Introduction
- Sean Connery's James Bond and Tom Selleck's Magnum P.I. both had hairy chests and were considered sexy in their day, but would likely not gain the same sex-symbol status today. Current fashion trends tend to favor men with hairless, or at least well-groomed, chests. If you're a naturally hairy fellow, or are looking for a way to obtain a hairless chest like many of the top male models, read on to discover the various ways to remove unwanted chest hair.
-
Shaving
- One of the easiest and least expensive ways to rid yourself of chest hair is by shaving it off. However, this is probably the most temporary method, as your shaved hair will grow back relatively quickly. This means that you may have to keep shaving on a fairly regular basis to keep your chest smooth.
-
Waxing
- If you remove your chest hair by waxing, it will remain smooth longer and the hair that grows back will be thinner than the original hair. Although at-home waxing kits are available, you may want to consider having a professional wax or chest, or at least ask someone else to do it for you. Be aware that waxing can be quite painful, as Steve Carrell's character demonstrated in The 40 Year Old Virgin.
-
Depilatories
- You can buy these hair-removal creams at most local drugstores. With most products, you simply apply the cream to the area you want to remove hair from, wait a few minutes, and then wipe or rinse the cream and hair away. Hair removed this way will not grow back about as quickly as that removed by shaving. Some people find that their skin is irritated by the chemicals in depilatories, so be sure to test how your skin reacts using a small test patch before smearing the cream over your entire chest.

Trimming
- Removing all the hair from your chest and trying to maintain the hairless look can be painful and challenging, especially for men who have a lot of chest hair. If you fall into this category, you may want to consider grooming or trimming your chest hair rather than removing it all. You can use a pair of scissors or an electric trimmer to keep your chest hair from getting unruly and maintain a nicely groomed look.
-
Laser Hair Removal
- A relatively new way of removing hair, laser hair removal is more long-lasting than most of the methods described above. Using a laser, a specialist will target and damage the root, causing the hair to fall out and the root to produce a thinner hair less often. As you can imagine, this method can be time consuming and, therefore, costly.
-
Electrolysis
- If you want to be rid of your chest hair forever and are willing to spend some money to do do, you may want to look into electrolysis. This method uses a guided electric current to destroy the hair follicle, ensuring that the hair does not grow back. Especially if you have a lot of chest hair, you may have to spend hours at the salon to get rid of it all, which can end up costing several thousand dollars.
