- How to Embellish an Evening Bag
- Supplies:
- Plain evening bag
- Tissue paper (optional)
- Beading thread
- Beading needle
- Straight pins
- A bag of color coordinated 5mm sequins
- A bag of color coordinated rocaille beads size 12/0
- Scissors
- Directions:
- Start by finding a purse that matches the fabric and color of your dress. Opt for rich colors if your choice is a solid. If you decide to go with a pattern, keep it subtle and elegant.
- Next, if you have a bag without a pattern already on it, you'll need to create one. Search the Web for floral patterns then print out a few of them. Trace the designs on a piece of craft tissue paper. After cutting them out, arrange them along the flap of the purse in a pleasing pattern. Use straight pins to hold them in place. (Skip this step if your purse already has a pattern.)
- Cut a 24in length of thread, place it in the needle and knot the end.
- Starting from the wrong side of the fabric, pull the needle through at the end of one of your pattern lines.
- Place four beads on the thread and slide them to the surface of the material.
- Pull the needle through the right side of the fabric then push it back through the wrong side between the second and third bead.
- Now, take the needle back through the third and fourth bead heading in the direction of your pattern line.
- Repeat this process over the outlines of your patterns.
- To add more sparkle, add sequins along the floral accents. To hold it in place, thread the sequin first then add a rocaille bead. Push the needle back through the same sequin while piercing the fabric. Now, the sequin is secure. Just carry the thread across the wrong side of the fabric as you add more sequins and beads.
- How to Dye Shoes

- White satin shoes
- Matching dye
- Plastic gloves
- Pot big enough to hold both shoes and water

- The instructions on the box will tell you how much water and die should be mixed together. Keep in mind that you can re-dye the shoes to get progressively darker shades if needed.
- Boil the amount of water needed then add the salt and dye. Make sure to mix well before adding the shoes. You must do both shoes at the same time so that the color is consistent on both. (Use gloves so that your skin isn't stained.)
- Finally, dry the shoes for at least 24 hours before using them.
- Repeat the process if the color is too light.
Making a Corsage
Since some teenage girls opt to go to the prom without a date, they must purchase or create their own corsage to compliment their gown. Making a lovely corsage is quick and easy for any crafting skill level.
- Supplies:
- Rhinestone bouquet picks
- Wrist corsage clip
- (3) silk roses or other centerpiece flowers
- Filler leaves and/or flowers
- Silk babies breath
- Floral wire
- Wire cutters
- Floral tape
- Bow that compliments your dress color
- Ribbons
- Directions:
- First, lay out your flowers and decide on the arrangement you find the most pleasing.
- Use wire cutters to clip the rose stems to a 3in length then bind them together tightly with floral tape.
- Now, add bunches of babies breath around the back and sides of the roses by twisting their wires around the rose stems. Make sure not to overwhelm the centerpiece flowers with too many filler flowers.
- Finish by adding a few leaves behind the flowers to use as a frame to set off the colors and arrangement. Secure all the flowers and leaves with floral tape around the stems.
- Using the floral wire, tie the bunch down to the wrist corsage clip.
- Finally, add a bow on top of the stems. The bow will not only hide the stems but the plastic base of the corsage clip. You can also drape some ribbons from the corsage behind the bow. Tie it all down to the corsage clip with a piece of ribbon or wire.
- At this point, you can slide in a few rhinestone bouquet picks for added sparkle and glamour.
Note: Joann Fabrics does not sell real flowers. However, if you'd like to create your corsage with fresh flowers instead of silks, the process is virtually the same. Remove thorns and debris under water then cut the stems so that they are 3in long. Bend a 10in piece of wire in half then push it through the center of the flower. One end should come out on each side of the stem. Wrap the wire snugly to the stem with floral tape. After that, cover them with floral tape and bind to the corsage clip as usual.
