People will not bother to follow a Twitterer who don't tweet on a regular basis - at least not people who don't know you personally. "Regular basis" in Twitter language means at least a few times a day. Although part of the point of Twitter is to post casual tweets, keeping people informed about your daily life and things that come to your mind, other posts should point to news stories, fun videos, thought-provoking opinion pieces and other interesting content.
Step 2: Follow Others
- The second thing to do is to start following other interesting people on Twitter, with the hope that they will start following you as a result. If you are twittering, you are hopefully already following friends, current and previous classmates, coworkers and family. Now start following other people that interest you, that you may have missed. Using Twitter Search for topics that interest you is a great way to discover like-minded individuals whom you could follow; if you often discuss the same subjects or have a similar perspective, there's a much greater chance they will decide to follow you back or start a dialogue.
Step 3: Promote Your Twitter Account
- Next, promote your Twitter account in as many ways as possible.
- Post links to it on your blog if you have any, or start a blog if you don't have it yet.
- Mention it on your homepage or build one if you haven't already.
- List it in online directories of Twitter accounts.
- Organize contests or other exciting activities on your Twitter account.
