Have you been told your entire life that you have a knack for business? If so, you might have considered attending business school. This guide will provide you with the necessary tips on how to get into business school.
Step 1: Research Schools
- Which business school is right for you? Do some preliminary research online. You should:
- Determine which schools offer the classes or specializations you are interested in focusing
- Find schools based upon location. If you are looking to enroll in a school that will cost you less, then finding a school in the state you reside will be the most beneficial.
- Quality. How does the specific school you are researching stand up to other business schools? Make some comparisons. Are the schools you like ranked?
- Make a list of the schools that meet your qualifications
Step 2: Meet the Requirements
- In order to be accepted into a specific business school, you must meet that school's requirements. Before moving forward, make sure you meet those requirements, or that you will be able to meet them by the time your application is processed. These requirements may include, but are not limited to:
- GPA. Do you have the grades to get into the school?
- Tuition and expenses. Will you be able to afford the school's tuition? If not, will you be able to get a scholarship or qualify for financial aid?
- Experience. Certain schools will choose candidates with business related experience over those without.
- Curriculum. Some business schools will require you to have taken certain coursework in order to be accepted into their school.
- Test scores. Depending on whether you are applying to an undergraduate or graduate program, you will be expected to make a certain minimum score. For grad schools, for example, you will need to take the GMAT test.
Step 3: Gain Experience
- Experience is key whenever you are applying to college, but especially when you are trying to be accepted into a specific program at a school. Internships, for example, are an excellent way to provide you with hands on experience in the field you wish to enter, and will look great on your business school application.
Step 4: Begin the Application Process
- Once you have followed the above steps, you should be ready to start the application process. Most applicants will be expected to:
- Fill out the appropriate applications
- Write application essays. Some schools will allow you to write up to seven essays, each one tailored to show the school why you are the best candidate for their school.
- Get recommendation letters
- Interview. Some schools require everyone to interview, while others interview by invitation only.
