Easy Ways To Get Gum Out Of Hair
Bubble and chewing gums taste delicious and are fun to chomp on, but sometimes they can work their way into the hair. When this happens, the gum does not come out with simple soap and water. However, there are other methods that will remove just about any gum quickly and safely. After using these methods it's a very good idea to wash your hair, especially with the WD-40 method.
Method 1: Oils
Cooking oil will lubricate your hair, and create a slick barrier between the gum and your tresses. To use it, rub a liberal amount of oil directly on to the gum, as well as on the hair around it. Wait a few minutes, and then run a comb through your hair, starting above the gum. It should comb through before long. Baby oil, olive oil or almond oil are other alternatives to cooking oil.
Method 2: Peanut Butter
This one’s a classic! Be sure to use creamy peanut butter, NOT chunky. The oilier the butter, the better. Put some onto a toothbrush, and brush through the gum-afflicted area using long, smooth, downward strokes. Once gum is dissolved enough, pull it out with a towel. Shampoo when finished.
Method 3: Ice
Hold ice to the gum to freeze it solid. You may want to fill a plastic baggie with ice, and then wrap the baggie around the gum. Freezing could take 15-20 minutes, so be patient. Once gum is solid, just pull it right out of your hair.
Method 4: Conditioner
This is one of my personal favorites. Apply conditioner to the hair where the gum is stuck and work it in. Hairs should start sliding away from the gum, atleast a little at a time. It also helps to run the hair under water and work it out slowly while applying more conditioner as needed.
Method 5: WD-40
I know it's sounds crazy, but it works! Spray small amount on fingers and rub into hair. Then you can use a paper towel or rag to wipe it away. You must be careful with the WD-40. Do not spray it directly on hair, it could get in your eyes or mouth. Also wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
Method 6: Lotion and Mouthwash
Rub hand lotion onto the area and then wait a couple minutes. Rinse with mouthwash and the gum should come out.
Method 7: Other Common Household Items
There are a lot of different ways to remove gum from your hair other than cutting it. You can use mayonnaise, petrolium jelly, mousse, toothpaste or even cold cream. Just saturate gum with one of these common household items and wait a few minutes. Then just comb or wipe it away.
