Looking for Cash for appliances information? Extra cash is always welcomed, especially if it comes free from the government. The United States government has created an appliance rebate as a form of economic stimulus and a way to increase the number of energy efficient appliances in use. Obtain some of this stimulus cash for yourself by learning how to get government cash for your appliances.

Energy efficient appliances save money through lower power bills and are a more ecologically sound appliance option. Older appliances use 10 to 30 percent more power than newer, more efficient models.http://www.accountingweb.com/topic/tax/cash-refrigerators-program-might-not-be-ready-christmasFor years, the Energy Star program has labeled appliances with an energy efficiency rating to help consumers make informed choices.

Now, as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the U.S government hopes to stimulate the economy and the consumers by offering cash for old appliances when you purchase a new, energy efficient appliance in the so called “Cash for Refrigerators” plan. This plan echoes the popular “Cash for Clunkers” program that was wildly popular with consumers for car purchases.

The “Cash for Refrigerators” or government cash for your appliances plan is currently in the planning stages and will be coordinated through each state’s energy department. As was learned with the “Cash for Clunkers” program, the cash may go fast, so it is important that you act fast to get your government cash for appliances money.

Step 1: Learn About Your State’s Plan

Each state has different energy efficient needs and goals. It also appears that each state may have a different time frame for offering government cash for your appliances. Monitor your state’s energy department website for updates on the program.

Some proposals for government cash for your appliances include:

  1. New York (One week in February 2010):
    1. $75 Rebate for Washers and Refrigerators
    2. $50 for freezers
    3. $500 for a 3-appliance purchase (dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, etc.)
  2. Indiana (January 1, 2010):
    1. May require old appliances to be turned in to obtain cash
  3. North Carolina:
    1. May provide money in hand after purchase so consumers do not need to wait for a rebate in the mail. http://www.accountingweb.com/topic/tax/cash-refrigerators-program-might-not-be-ready-christmas

Consider researching the plans in neighboring states. Depending on the final plans, you may be able to drive a short distance and gain higher cash back for your appliances from a different state. Just be prepared to take your appliances with you instead of relying on home delivery.

Step 2: Save Up Money Now

Start researching and saving up your money now for the government cash for appliances plan. Research what appliances are available, your preferred brands and features that you would like. Create a ranking of the exact appliances you want, so you can act quickly once the program launches.

Some states may provide a large incentive for buying multiple appliances, so save up enough money now so you will be able to take advantage of the largest rebates available. Consider discussing your plans with friends, relatives and neighbors. If you do not need multiple appliances, you may be able to buy items you need as a group to cash in on the biggest savings of the government cash for your appliances program.

Step 3: Act Quickly Once Your Program Launches

Rebates and government cash may run out quickly if many people act on this government cash for your appliances, or “Cash for Refrigerators” plan.

Try to combine store sales, and manufacturer rebates with the government cash program for maximum savings.

Step 4: Obtain Federal Tax Credits

Some appliance purchase may qualify for additional cash from the government in the form of a tax credit.

Tax credits of up to 30 percent of the purchase cost are available for :

  1. HVAC air conditioning systems
  2. Non-Solar Water Heaters
