In this video, Mahalo fitness expert Heather Lawrence shows you how to do a wrist flexor stretch.
Muscles Stretched
Step 1: Stretch Often
Because wrist and forearm muscles can tighten up quickly, you will want to regularly stretch them to keep discomfort at bay. By performing daily wrist flexor stretches, you can keep those muscles from aching at the end of a long day of work. Stretching the wrist flexor muscles can be done virtually anywhere, including in your own cubicle at the office.
Step 2: Perform the Stretch
To perform a wrist flexor stretch, you will need to be standing up. Each wrist will be stretched separately. To begin, make sure your palms are facing downward in front of you. With your right hand, grasp under the fingers of your left hand (at the base, where your fingers meet your palm) and gently and slowly pull your wrist up and back (towards the forearm), extending the left arm forward as you do so. Extend as far as you can while carefully stretching the wrist. Hold for a few seconds and slowly release. Repeat this stretch with your right wrist.c
Step 3: Stretch Variation
Another type of wrist flexor stretch must be performed while facing a wall. Stand facing the wall at arm's length with your arms forward and palms facing up. Place the fingers of one hand on the wall and gently try to flatten the entire hand against the wall. Stretch as far as you can without discomfort - once you feel a good muscle stretch, hold the position for between 10 and 30 seconds. Release and repeat with the other hand.c
