Introduction
Emergency assistance is financial help for families who are generally self-sufficient, but have an unexpected situation affecting health or safety arise they they are not financially equipped to handle. - Utility bill help
- Urgent home repairs
- Relocation
- Home owner situations
- Energy assistance
Step 2: Do you Qualify for Assistance?
To qualify, you must have a limited income, as well as limited assets. Here are the details: http://www.michigan.gov/dhs/0,1607,7-124-5453_5531-15410--,00.html- One-member families or groups may not have non-cash assets exceeding $1,750
- Families or groups of two or more may not have non-cash assets exceeding $3,000
- Families or groups of 1 may not earn over $445 per month.
- Families or groups of 2 may not earn over $500 per month.
- Families or groups of 3 may not earn over $625 per month.
- Families or groups of 4 may not earn over $755 per month.
- Families or groups of 5 may not earn over $885 per month.
- Families or groups of 6 may not earn over $1015 per month.
Step 3: How to Apply for Emergency Assistance
If you have determined that you are experiencing an emergency, and you meet the income and asset requirements in step 2, it is time to begin the application process. To do this, you will need the DHS-1171 packet, also known as the assistance application. This may be obtained from the www.michigan.gov website, and printed up and filled out from home.
