Cannabis in Canada
This video, titled Why Prohibition? takes a look at the war on cannabis, and tackles the topic of legalized marijuana.
Introduction
If you live in Canada and have a medical condition that would be helped by using marijuana, you have the right to get treatment. However, you will need to obtain a special card in order to buy and smoke it legally. Here's how to do it.
Step 1: Determine Eligibility
In order to qualify for a card, you need to have an illness that is eased by marijuana. If you have cancer, HIV, or any other terminal illness, you will almost certainly qualify. If your condition is not life-threatening, but is still serious and has been shown to improve with marijuana use, you may also be entitled to a marijuana card. Chronic conditions such as anxiety, depression, insomnia and pain have all been shown to improve with cannabis use, and may be grounds for receiving a medical marijuana card. http://www.norml.com/index.cfm?Group_ID=5441
Step 2: Apply
Once you have determined that you have a medical condition that may be eased with the use of marijuana, you will need to apply in order to become eligible for a card. There are several different forms for different types of uses of marijuana. Visit Health Canada's website for complete application information, or call 1-866-337-7705.
Step 3: See a Doctor
Health Canada requires that you have a physician's signature to get your card. This is to verify that you indeed have an illness, and that your doctor feels that using marijuana will be beneficial to your health. Your application will include the correct paperwork to have signed.
