If you haven't had a credit card before, you understand that it can sometimes be frustrating to go without one. And after all, you need credit so you can build credit, right? This page shows you How to Get a Credit Card with No Credit in three simple steps.
Credit cards are now commonplace in our society. In fact, without one, it can be difficult to rent a car or book a room in a hotel. Another problem with not having a credit card is that creditors view no credit the same way as bad credit! Fortunately, getting your first credit card is simpler than you think.
How to Get a Credit Card if You Have Bad Credit
In this video, financial consultant Patrick Munro talks about how to get a credit card with bad credit. Having no credit is often viewed by creditors in the same way having bad credit would be, so the same steps often apply. Learn about the ins and outs of getting a secured credit card.
Step 1: Identify the Card You Want
The first step to getting a credit card with no credit is to find cards you are likely to be approved for. Many credit card companies like Capital One and others offer Secured Credit Cards with guaranteed approval. You simply forward a set amount of money to the company and they base your credit limit on that amount. At the beginning, you may have to send $500 if you want $500 in credit, but they are likely to slowly begin offering you some non-secured credit on the card as well once you've had the time to prove yourself.
Step 2: Apply
Credit card companies make it as easy to apply for their products as possible. They will sometimes even launch special contests and promotions to encourage people to apply for certain cards. You can apply by phone, online, in person at a branch, through applications they send you in the mail, and occasionally even right inside a retail store if they have a booth set up for a special promotion.
Step 3: Receive Card
Once you've applied, all you have to do is wait. Remember that if you've chosen to apply for a secured card, your credit report doesn't matter! There is no reason to be nervous. Once your card has arrived, you'll need to follow the instructions included with it to activate it for use, then all you have to do is sign the back and you're ready to go!
