In this video, Mahalo wedding expert Kat Keane shows you how to find the right DJ for your wedding.
Match Personalities
The last thing you want is a DJ who is overly excited and shouting at your guests over the music. The music sets the tone for your wedding, so you want to make sure that you have a DJ who understands you and your fiancee and what you both want your wedding reception to feel like.
Spend Time with Them
To make sure a DJ is a good fit, spend some time with them. Talk with them about what you envision your wedding to be like. Ask if you can listen to some sample mixes or if they have any videos that you can watch to get a better feel for their style. If they DJ for more than just weddings, ask if you could come watch them work but don't expect an invitation.
Making Announcements
An important job of the DJ is to make announcements for things like the father-daughter dance or to get everyone on the dance floor. You can ask them for what they normally say of it they'll practice for you so you can get a better feel for their style.
Give Them a List of Dos and Don'ts
Make sure that your DJ knows what kind of music you both like and what kind of music you absolutely don't want played at your wedding. For example, if you don't like disco, make sure you include that on your list of don'ts.
