Going to church should be a comforting, pleasant and safe-feeling experience. People often say they have a 'church home', because that's how a person should feel at church--like it's their home. Not all churches are going to fit your comfort level, match your views on religion and faith, and be a comfortable place for you to call home. This guide will lead you through how to find the right church and make sure all of these conditions are met.

Finding the Right Pastor
Finding a good church is the first part of the equation to finding a church home, but finding the right pastor is essential to the makeup of the church. If you are not comfortable with a pastor, you won't be comfortable with the church, and that's not what church and worship is all about. This video discusses how to find the right pastor in your quest for finding the right church.

Introduction
Church is a place of worship and fellowship, so it's important you find a church home that is right for you on both aspects: worship and fellowship. You don't want to go to a church that doesn't align with your faith and you wouldn't want to go to a church where you felt uncomfortable with the people in the congregation.Finding a church home isn't as easy as just saying, "Well, I'm Baptist, so I'll go to the Baptist church." In larger cities, there might be multiple Baptist churches from which to choose. The same is true for other faiths and denominations. Let's look at some things to consider when choosing a church home.
-
Step 1: Make a List
If you're moving from one city to another, your previous pastor, minister, rabbi or church leader can usually give you a referral to another church that is similar in nature to the one you're leaving. Ask your church officials for more information. After that, simply go online or pick up a phone book and start looking at churches in your area. Make a list of the ones that look good and feel right to you.
Then sit down with your family and make a list of all the questions you want to address about the services the church offers, the faith and doctrines of the church, and more. You'll want to keep this list hand when calling. It's possible the church leaders will want to meet with you in person rather than answering a list of questions on the phone[, but you should have one or two most important questions to ask to determine which of the churches you want to visit in person with your family.

Step 2: Visit Churches
The next step in finding a good church home is to visit the churches. The first time you visit, you should meet with the church leaders, pastor, minister, rabbi, etc, outside of the normal congregational hours. The leaders of the church should tell you about their church, the services, the doctrines and even take you on a tour of the church. This should give you a good feel for the church. -
Step 3: Attend Services
After visiting the churches on your list, you will know which ones feel right to you and which don't. Make a list of all the ones you like the best, and then plan to spend a few weekends attending the various congregational meetings, whether that's Sunday services, Bible studies, or other meetings. The only way to really know if a church is right for you is to go there in person while the church is doing its normal activities. Then, of course, you will pray about the decision and your family can discuss what each of you likes or dislikes about the churches you attended, and you can then make a request to become official members of that particular church.
