Step 1: Learn About Your Network
Most homes and small businesses connect their computers together with a network of wires or wireless signals. These wires (or wireless signals) all connect together at a router. Typically, the router is then connected to a Modem that connects to the Internet. With this setup in mind, understand that there are 2 IP Addresses assigned to each computer. The first IP Address is assigned to your Router by your Internet Service Provider. The second IP Address is assigned to each of your computers by your Router. Your router "routes" the data from the IP address given to it by your Internet Service Provider to each of the IP addresses it has assigned to your computers. This process is called, Network Address Translation.
