Step 1: Plan Ahead
- Think about what you want out of an hotel. Ask yourself:
- How many rooms do you need?
- How long will you stay?
- How much can you afford?
- What amenities do you need?
- Do you need a big modern hotel?
- Smaller inn-style and hacienda-style hotels will save you cash.
- Book your hotel early, for the best savings.
- If you decide to go to Cancun during the height of the season, you may need to make reservations as early as three months in advance.
Step 2: Visit During the Off-Season
- The best time to vacation in Cancun is November to early December.
- The off-season is May to early December.
- You may want to note that hurricane season is June 1 to November 30 (if you visit during hurricane season, you'll get even cheaper rates but it is a risk).
- Hotels may cut their rates by 20 to 60 percent.
- Accommodations are easier to book.
- Attractions are less crowded.
- Keep in mind, some hotels, hotel services and attractions may be closed.
- Avoid the seasonal months, which are mid-December to April.
