How to Find a Haunted House Job
If you love to scare and be scared, then working in a Haunted House is one of the coolest jobs you can get. There are many different kinds of jobs available, you just have to know where to look!
Tips
Start looking as early as possible. Halloween related jobs fill up very fast.
Be prepared to be on your feet for hours, possibly in a costume or a mask.
Introduction
Many Haunted Houses are volunteer gigs. There are paid positions out there, but they are usually at hotels, theme parks and other big attractions.
What you will need to do to get started is check your local newspapers, local job websites, call the theme parks in your area, and Craigslist.
Make sure you start looking early, because working in a haunted house is very popular and positions fill up very fast.
High Tech Haunted Houses
A short news clip about the inner workings of Haunted Houses of today. Ghostly mansions of the past are replaced by high tech animated monsters and ghouls, but no haunted robotics can replace flesh and blood human actors.
Step 1: Deciding what kind of job you want
There are a lot of different options when working in a Haunted House. You could be an actor, where you paint up your face, wear a costume and scare guests by popping out behind things, acting out scary or gross scenes or act as a prop. There's also construction and decoration, and ushering or ticket taking.
When applying, know what position you are interested and ask about the available options.
Step 2: Finding where you want to work
The next step is to actually find work. Google is a great place to start if you are looking on the internet. Job listing websites might have what you are looking for, and theme park websites might have a section hidden in their careers section, just for Halloween. If you know a theme park around you has a Halloween attraction or festival, call them!
Step 3: No haunted houses in your area?
If all the positions are filled or there are no Haunted Houses in your area, start your own! Make it a block effort with your neighborhood, even. Sometimes working in a home made haunted house is even better than going to a big attraction. It's easy and pretty cheap to do, and it's a fun way to spend the last week of October!
