Introduction
If you held a job in the state of Colorado and now find yourself out of work, you may be able to receive compensation from the state. The amount of money you can get will depend on your past earnings history. To find out how much you are entitled to, and collect any unemployment insurance benefits, you must file a claim with the state. -
Step 1: Determine Eligibility
To be eligible, you must:- Have been let go from your job (through no fault of your own)
- Be able to work
- Be willing to look for work
- Be physically able to accept any work, should it be offered to you
Step 2: Apply
Here's how to apply:- Go to www.coworkforce.com
- Click on Unemployment Online Services on the left side of the page
- Click File for Unemployment
- Read the overview
- Click File a Claim
- Follow all instructions
- Keep in mind that you will need to be able to offer detailed information about your employment history in your application. This may include the exact dates of employment, the names, addresses and contact phone numbers of your past employers, and your wages earned for the past year (approximately). Your employer will be contacted, and will be asked to verify your employment and give the reason why you no longer work there.
- In addition, you must be able to provide your social security number, as well citizenship and/or immigration documentation. If you are missing any of this information, it is a good idea to locate it before you begin the application process.
Step 3: Wait
Once you are done with the online application, you must wait for your claim to be processed. This can take up to two weeks, at which point you will receive a check in the mail. If you do not qualify, you will be sent a letter explaining why you are ineligible. If your claim takes over two weeks, or you believe that you have wrongly been denied unemployment, call 1-800-388-5515 to speak with a representative.Featured Mahalo Topics
