The HTC Hero is a Smartphone manufactured by the HTC Corporation and carried by Sprint in the United States. It offers a highly customizable user interface thanks to HTC Sense. However, the phone’s battery life does not last very long. Read this page for some things you can do to extend the battery life of your HTC Hero.http://www.htc.com/www/product/hero/overview.html
There are many reasons that you potentially chose to buy a HTC Hero phone including Outlook e-mail, calendar, and contacts synchronization, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 5-megapixel camera. There is also Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and 3G support. However, the usefulness of the phone’s functions often drains most of the 1500 mAh battery at a very quick rate. To solve this issue a change of the phone’s settings can be quite useful to maximize the battery life.
Improve Cell Phone Battery Life
Watch this if you want to view step by step instructions on how you can improve the battery life of your HTC Hero. This video explains exactly how to alter settings in the phone including turning down brightness, & changing automatic updates of social networking sites, as well as a unobvious way to recalibrate the battery.
Step 1: Disable the Always-on mobile data connection
One of the first things that you can do to help your phone battery last longer is disable the ‘Always-On’ data setting. This small change is one of the best energy conserving measures because it prevents your phone from constantly searching for data information. Keeping this feature on at night, or during the day, when you are not using the phone is unnecessary as this feature alone wastes a huge amount of your HTC Hero’s battery.
To turn off this setting go to the home screen. From there select menu, and once at the menu page select settings. After navigating to settings select Wireless controls, and then Mobile network settings. On this page you will need to deselect the ‘Enable always-on mobile data’ option, which is the phone’s default setting. http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/935379/Battery+Life
To reactivate the setting at any time just follow the same navigation (Menu > Settings > Wireless controls > Mobile network setting) and reselect the option.
Step 2: Disable 'Background Data' transfers
After disabling the ‘Always-On’ data connection it is also a good idea to turn-off background data transfers. This will effectively reduce background data procedures that keep the Hero’s network connections active, dissipating a lot of battery power during the day. This little change not only saves battery life but also eases the processor load of the phone, making it work more efficiently.
It is important to note that this option should not be deactivated if you use Gmail, Calendar and Contacts, or any other Google related services. The HTC Hero requires this option to be enabled or it will disable automatic sync with Google online servers and prevent the use of the services.http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/935379/Battery+Life
To disable this setting go to menu from the home screen and then select settings. From there choose Data synchronization, and then the Google option. Lastly deselect background data and the setting will be turned off.
To reactivate the setting at any time follow the same steps Menu > Settings > Data synchronization > Google > Reselect Background data.
Step 3: Turn off automatic Weather updates & Alter the update frequency for Twitter, Flicker and Facebook updates
The updates that the phone undergoes are perpetually drawing on data, which in turn drains battery life. This happens regardless of whether or not you are interested in the current weather or social networking information.
To turn-off the weather update function do the following: Navigate to menu then All Programs. At this page click weather then choose the ‘menu’ option from within the Weather program. From there select settings where you can disable Update automatically option allowing you to receive Weather information at your discretion instead of constantly. (Menu > All programs > Weather > ‘Menu’ button > Settings > disable Update automatically.
You can also reduce frequent Facebook, Twitter, and Flicker (or other social networking services) application updates to extend battery life by retrieving updates at specific time of your choosing.
To alter Twitter settings go to the menu page and then All programs. Once there select Peep and then the ‘Menu’ button within Peep. After this choose Settings, then Send & Receive, and lastly check frequency before changing the frequency to Every 2 hours or some other option. (Menu > All programs > Peep > ‘Menu’ button > Settings > Send & Receive > Check frequency > Every 2 hours).
The Facebook and Flicker update options are in a different location. For changing Facebook and Flicker settings, go to the People from All programs. Then select the Update and Events tab, then the ‘menu’ button, and finally the Data Connection button and change the update frequency to once every hour rather than every 10 minutes. (Menu > All programs > People > Updates and events > ‘Menu’ button > Data connection settings).http://geektechpost.blogspot.com/2009/02/extend-battery-life-for-htc-touch.html
Step 4: Turn Down Screen Brightness
By far the easiest thing that can be done to conserve battery is turn down the brightness of the screen. The phone operates at a high level of brightness that is unnecessary and depletes the battery at every use. To change the screen brightness go to the Hero Launcher and click on Screen &Lock. Then find Screen and locate the Brightness option. The brightness can be adjusted by moving the dimmer slightly. As this is an option dictated by personal preference stop wherever you are most comfortable. (Hero Launcher > Screen & Lock > Screen > Brightness).
