Introduction
Learning How to Do Yo-Yo Tricks is considered by many to be a lot of fun, and can help pass the time when you are bored with nothing to do. Some people even make this into a great hobby. Before getting started there is a few things I thought you would like to know first, for beginners. If you are not a beginner go ahead and skip to First Trick: "The Spinner", just past Step 2.
First Trick: "The Spinner"
To do the trick called "The Spinner" you need to hold the yo-yo in your hand as if you were going to do the basic down-up yo-yo. Next you will want to curl your arm, bring your hand near your head, kind of like you were showing your muscles. Next, snap your arm down while releasing the yo-yo which will cause the yo-yo to fling down near the ground and the ball of the yo-yo to spin. If you have done this correctly the ball of the yo-yo will continue to spin at the bottom of the string. To finish the trick you will need to bring the Yo-Yo back up into your hand. To do this, turn the palm of your hand down and jerk the the string with your finger. The Yo-Yo will return to your hand.
Second Trick: How to "Walk The Dog" Yo-Yo Trick
The to the left picture shows a cartoon drawing of a young girl "walking the dog". Notice we are not talking about a real dog, but instead we are referring to the Yo-Yo as being the dog. This picture has been taken from Howstuffworks.com Start out by throwing the yo-yo down just like you would for "The Spinner". Once the Yo-Yo is spinning at the bottom of the string (called "sleeping"), slowly lower the ball of the Yo-Yo to the floor. The spin of the Yo-Yo should make the Yo-Yo roll forward along the ground. Walk with the spinning ball, just like you would if you were walking a dog. Make sure to return the Yo-Yo to your hand with a quick jerk of the string before the yo-yo loses momentum and stops spinning.
Third Trick: "Loop the Loop"
Throw the yo-yo into the sleeping position as with the two previous tricks. Tug the string to bring the yo-yo back up to your hand, but don't catch it. Instead, let it go over the top of your hand and back down again. It should return to the sleeping position. You can do this as many times as you like before bringing it back up to your hand, but make sure to finish your loops before the yo-yo loses it's momentum.
