Introduction
- The morning banana diet was developed by Sumiko Watanabe, a pharmacist in Japan, who was trying to find an easy way to help her husband lose weight. After he successfully lost weight, he posted the diet instructions on the popular Japanese social networking site Mixi. The diet became so popular in Japan that major supermarkets experienced banana shortages in late 2008.

Diet Rules
- Unlike some other fad diets, the morning banana diet doesn't require you to buy any expensive branded products—the only thing you'll need is bananas. There are, however, several guidelines that banana dieters are encouraged to follow:
- Eat raw bananas for breakfast—you can eat as many as you like, but don't stuff yourself. If you don't like bananas, eat a different type of fruit
- Eat your dinner no later than 8:00 p.m.
- Avoid eating desserts
- Eat only until you're satisfied—avoid stuffing yourself by eating slowly, chewing each mouthful thoroughly and enjoying your meals
- During meals, drink only room-temperature water and don't use it to "wash down" your food
- Although they are not forbidden, beverages other than water are discouraged
- Try to get in some exercise every day, but don't put pressure on yourself to do so
- Try to go to bed no later than 12:00 a.m.
- Ensure that there is a four-hour window between your last meal and your bedtime

- Since the diet gained popularity through Internet exposure, it has remained a popular discussion topic on several Japanese forums and blogs. Banana dieters are encouraged to share their experiences, strategies and tips on the official morning banana forum or set up their own dieting journal. More suggestions and recommendations for banana dieters are available on the morning banana diet forum.

Conclusion
- Unlike some other diets, the morning banana diet doesn't profess to help you lose a lot of weight in a short period of time, nor does it impose a lot of strict and inconvenient rules on followers. At is core, the diet merely encourages people who may not to eat more fruit, drink more water and be more conscious of how much they're eating.
