In this video, Mahalo expert Katie Gurvin shows you how to achieve the Kim Kardashian nude lip.
Step 1: Pick Your Color
If you're applying heavy eye makeup, you'll also want to apply nude lip color to balance it out. The mistake people make when going for the nude lip is that their own lip color will be a little too pink or red for a true nude color, meaning the lip color will come out pink, red or even brown. It's important to pick a color that is just a shade darker than your actual skin tone, as opposed to your lip tone. Try to stay within the pink-beige color family.
Step 2: Prime Your Lips
It's good to prep your lips with a primer. The one featured here is a silicon prep and prime. The purpose of the primer is to fill in any tiny gaps or lines along the mouth, making your lips into a smooth, velvety surface. Your lipstick will go on smoother and last longer.
Step 3: Use Concealer
Next you'll use a beige-colored concealer for the lips. The one featured on the model is a product called "Lip Erase" by MAC. It's purpose is to blot out your own lip color.
It's worth noting that the nude lip works particularly well for people who have thin lips, because lighter shades of lipstick generally give the mouth a fuller appearance.
Step 4: Line Your Lips
Once you have a nice, neutral lip base, you'll want to add definition with lip liner. Featured here is a light beige-pink liner called "Subculture" by NARS. Use light, feathery strokes to give some definition. Use a lip brush to then lightly brush the color in from the corner of the lip.
Step 5: Apply Lipstick
On your lip palette, mix a few beige and pink colors together for the perfect neutral lip color. Using your lip brush, apply the color in short, firm strokes to your bottom lip. Press your lips together but don't rub them. Apply to the top lip and press together again.
Step 6: Add Gloss
Celebrities rocking the nude color tend to top this look with a little gloss. A really good gloss is "Strip Tease" by NARS, this one being a sheer, milky color. Glosses have a tendency to get messy, so don't overdo it. Just dot a bit in the center of your lip and brush it to perfection. Lastly, you can always touch up a bit more liner to perfect lip definition.
