Mahalo's cooking expert Scott Aaronson explains the steps for dicing vegetables with a mandoline.
What You'll Need
- Zucchini or other fruit or vegetable that needs to be diced
- Mandoline
- Cutting board
Step 1: Prepare the Vegetable
- Cut both ends off your vegetable (a zucchini in this case) and then cut it in half.
- Put the zucchini in the guard and make sure it's attached.
Step 2: Prepare the Mandoline
- Choose the 1/4 inch thickness julienne blade and enter it into the mandoline.
- Set up your mandoline so it's standing at the correct angle.
Step 3: Dice It Up
Use the mandoline in the normal fashion by raising the guard to the top and sliding it down in a steady motion. Your julienne blade will produce long, thin slices of zucchini.
- Lay out the zucchini pieces on the cutting board.
- Use a chef's knife to cut the slices into smaller pieces.
