On the other hand, I watched Trauma last night. Guy dropped a frozen Turkey into a fryer. Ugly. Even dried, this scares me :) -
Introduction
Deep fried turkey is moist and tender, and despite the fact that its cooked in oil, it's not greasy. The turkey needs to be dry when you lower it into the oil, so any seasoning should be done by marinating the turkey ahead of time, or rubbing dry seasonings under the skin. Deep frying only takes about 3-4 minutes a pound, so your turkey will be ready faster than if you oven roasted it. -
Step 1: What You Need to Deep Fry a Turkey
- Whole turkey, less than 14 pounds
- Electric or propane turkey fryer
- Enough oil to cover the turkey
Step 2: Prepare the Turkey to Be Deep Fried
- Remove any excess fat from the turkey.

- A deep fried turkey should not be stuffed, but can be seasoned with spices and herbs. You can even marinate the turkey, as long as you dry it off completely.
Step 3: How to Deep Fry A Turkey.
- Read the instruction manual for your turkey fryer, making sure you observe any safety precautions.
- Fill the fryer with enough oil to cover the turkey, or up to the fil line if your fryer has one.
- Heat the oil to the temperature recommended for your fryer. This will usually be 375-400 degrees.

- Raise the turkey from the oil, and allow to drain for 20 minutes in a pan or on paper towels before attempting to handle it.
