Halloween is the perfect time of year to have a little fun even if you work in an office. And what could be better than dressing up your office for Halloween? No matter if you work in a business environment or a casual, laid-back atmosphere, it's possible to learn how to decorate your office for Halloween to help your colleagues get into the 'spirit' of the fun!
Introduction
Look around your house for items you can use as decorations. Party Stores like Party City have huge Halloween displays. Stock up on streamers, masks, centerpieces and table cloths with which to decorate your office. Keep the noisy decorations (the ghosts that scream and the werewolves that howl when passersby set off the motion detectors) at home. You don't want to annoy your co-workers or, heaven forbid, your boss, by making a big ruckus even if it is all in the name of fun.
How to Make Tombstones
Step 1: Decorate your Door
Purchase a large size Halloween vinyl or paper table cloth and decorate your office door with it. Or, purchase large sheets of black felt and use them to cover the door. Adhere jack-o-lantern cut-outs that you can purchase from a party store or make your own using a template you printed out online. Use letters purchased at a craft store to spell out Happy Halloween on the door. Hang a black cat from the door knob (a stuffed black cat, of course!)
Step 2: Light Up the Windows
Hang strands of black and orange twinkling lights around your office windows. Use an extension cord if you don't have enough outlets in your office to handle all the lights. Purchase paper ghosts from the party store and use flashlights to illuminate them from behind. Or better yet, pick up a few electric light-up jack-o-lanterns and set them on the window sills as well. Keep candles at home as you want to make safety of yourself and others your number one priority.
Step 3:Decorate the Office Furniture
Cover the bookcases or file cabinets with Halloween themed table cloths or black felt. Decorate the furniture with plastic pumpkins or paper ghosts you pick up from the party store. Or hang fake spider webs (that you purchase from a party store or make yourself from yarn) over the fabric for a spooky effect. Bring in a scarecrow or a skeleton to set in the corner of your office - preferably where visitors won't see it until they enter. Then sit back and watch them jump when they come in!
A great Halloween touch are having tombstones to set on bookcases or put around the perimeter of the office. Pick some up at a Halloween store or make them yourself. Check out the video at the top of the page to learn how to make a tombstone.
And finally, don't forget to set out a bowl of Halloween candy for visitors to enjoy. Happy Halloween!
