Mahalo's cooking expert Danielle Bernabe shows you how to master the art of decorating snowman cookies.
What You'll Need
- Snowman sugar cookies
- Royal icing, dyed black, white and orange
- White sprinkles
- Candy buttons
- Resealable plastic bags
- Parchment paper
- Spoon
Step 1: Make Your Icing Pipers
- Scoop your black royal icing into one of the zip lock bags. Snip off the lower corner of the bag to make a small hole and push the icing into this corner. You now have your black icing piper.
- Repeat step one for your white and orange icings.
Step 2: Decorate the Hat
Place a snowman cookie on the parchment paper.
- Use the black icing piper to push the icing out of the bag and onto the cookie.
- Outline the border of the snowman's hat first. Then fill in the interior of the hat with the icing.
- Set aside to allow the icing to dry. If you are decorating multiple snowmen cookies, you can ice all their hats at once.
Step 3: Decorate the Body
Outline the snowman's body with the white icing. Then fill in the interior, using a spoon to spread it out evenly.
- Before the white icing dries, add some sprinkles over the body to give it extra glisten. Shake excess sprinkles onto the parchment paper to use for more cookies.
Step 4: Apply the Finishing Touches
While the icing is still wet, use three candy dots for the snowman's buttons.
- Use your orange icing piper to draw the snowman's nose.
- Use the black icing piper to make two small dots for the snowman's eyes.
- Allow the cookie to dry before serving.
