Video Tutorial for Creating a Spooky Halloween Tree
This video shows an easy way to create a small Halloween tree using branches from your backyard, an old tin, and small vintage postcards printed from the website they reference in their instructions. The demonstrator also shows how you can use the ornaments for other purposes such as sending matching invitations to your guests that they can later hang on their own tree.

Introduction
To start with, you'll need... a tree! What kind of tree you use is up to you. You can make this as budget friendly or as extravagant as you like ranging from a multi-pronged branch from your yard (with all leaves removed) to a Christmas tree (or Halloween tree!) purchased from a local store. How much work and money you put into this project is completely up to you. -
Deciding on Homemade or Storebought
Once you have your tree, it's time to decide what kind of ornaments you want to use. There are many pre-made Halloween ornaments available these days from stores like Party City or even Walmart. These can add up though depending on how elaborate you want to make your tree. What we'll be focusing on in the rest of this article is how to make some low cost alternatives to this spooky paraphernalia. -
Creating Your Own Ornaments
Next, you're going to choose and make your ornaments. Here are some jump starter ideas:
- Create a Halloween inspired garland by twisting thick (at least 1.5 inch) orange and black ribbon around each other and then draping it in loops around the tree.
- Either purchase some Halloween inspired twinkle lights to drape around the tree (you can find these in anything from the traditional bulb shapes to pumpkins, skulls, and even witches!) or reuse lights from your Christmas tree in generic colors.
- Using stencils, construction paper, glitter and markers, create your own ornaments for bats, ghosts, and pumpkins using the stencils linked in the resources or other free stencils found online.
Making a Personalized Picture Tree
To really make your tree pop as a must have decoration, use it as a prop during your party! If you have a Polaroid or similar camera (you can purchase a Fuji instant camera for around $50 from sites like Amazon) take pictures of each guest in their costume as they arrive and have a hole puncher handy to hang them on the tree. Nothing makes people look at decorations like seeing pictures of themselves!Resources Powered by Google
