Introduction
- Decorating the church for your wedding need not be an intimidating endeavor. Depending on your taste, the interior of the church and your budget, there are many decorating options for your consideration. Determine the feel of the church and then decorate as simply or as elaborately as you desire.
-
Step 1: Research Your Options
- One you have decided on a church wedding, visit the church in which you intend to get married and speak with the church administrator to determine what decorations are allowed. Take photos or make a drawing of the space and note the dimensions. Make note of the number of family members that plan to attend and decide on the number of pews that will need special attention, just for them.
-
Step 2: Create a Plan
- Decide on a budget and then you will be better able to determine if you should use lower cost items such as ribbons, bows or greenery, or more expensive flowers. A rule of thumb suggests that your decorations should follow the architecture and atmosphere of the church. If the church interior is quaint and airy, then a thin draped material between pews would act as a highlight. If the church is dark and ornate, you may not need any decorations. Take the color of the church interior, as well as the bridesmaids dresses, into consideration when choosing your colors.

Step 3: Complete The Decorating Process
- When the planning is complete, locate and purchase the materials. If you are renting candleholders or potted plants, reserve your order. Find out when you are allowed in the church, prior to the wedding, in order to begin the decorating process. Assign the decorating task to friends or family members and make sure to communicate your vision to them.
