He explains the steps thoroughly as well as the timing of step before dancing the steps himself. By dancing the steps, he is showing viewers how it is done. At the end of the video, links are provided that lead to videos of how to dance other dances.
Step 1: Half Box
Before you perform the underarm turn, you need to first dance half of the invisible box (as learned in previous lessons). Remember that the foxtrot is in 4/4 timing. The count is slow, quick quick, slow. Each "slow" step gets two beats and each "quick" step gets one.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB_bRqHY2J0&feature=channel
Let's review the box: the female mirrors the male's movements, so as he steps forward she steps back and they go to the side together. However, at this point, the female's step is going to change. Instead of completing the box, she is going to do an underarm turn.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB_bRqHY2J0&feature=channel
Step 2: Underarm Turn
This step is only for the females. During this step, the females will be performing the underarm turn while the males complete the rest of the box. As you do the end half of the box, males go back with the right foot, and lift the left arm up so the female can go under.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB_bRqHY2J0&feature=channel
Step 3: Complete and Rotate the Box
Now that you've completed the underarm turn, return into the box step pattern. Continue to do this pattern and count the beats out loud. If you'd like, you can rotate the box. The males rotate the box by gradually turning it to the left.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB_bRqHY2J0&feature=channel
