How to Dance The Foxtrot Promenade Walk Video
This video features John Cassese, also known as the Dance Doctor, teaching viewers how to dance the promenade walk of the foxtrot. He explains each step, what to do with one's feet, and how the male and female should walk. After explaining it, he then shows how to do the dance so the viewers can see how it's done. At the end of the video, there are links that lead to videos of other dances being taught.
Step 1: Perform the First Promenade Walk
The time for the foxtrot dance is 4/4, so you'll be counting: one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four and so forth. Keep this in mind as you dance.
To start out the fox trot promenade walk is to actually dance the first promenade walk. This means walking a quarter turn to the man's left and the female's right. Perform these steps with your feet: slow slow, quick quick, slow slow, quick quick. During the slow, slow part your feet are pointing the way you are walking, during the quick quick part your feet are facing your partner's feet so that you’re doing a side step. Repeat it because the dance is in 4/4 timing and this certain step of the dance is six counts so the pattern must be done in multiples of two (six plus six equals twelve and twelve divided by four equals three).http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yceY0hX7MfM
Step 2: Dance the Box
After you perform the first promenade walk, you'll turn into the invisible box as learned in previous lessons. On the one count, proceed into the box. Rotate the box.
Remember that the female mirrors the male's steps. The male starts the box by stepping his left foot forward and the female starts by placing her right foot back. From there, they step to the side together, forward together (for the male it's backwards) and then to the side again to find their original starting place. The male then rotates the box by going left first.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yceY0hX7MfM
Step 3: Perform the Second Promenade Walk
The last part of the full promenade walk is to dance the promenade walk again. After you have rotated the box, go back to where you started and do the promenade walk the other way. Remember to do slow slow, quick quick, slow slow, quick quick and repeat it. Count out loud so you know your timing is correct. Once you get back to your original starting place (before doing the first promenade walk), go back to the rotating box.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yceY0hX7MfM
