Step 1: See your Primary Care Physician
Because fatigue is often a symptom of more serious medical problems, it is important that you begin by seeing your physician. Through discussions and blood tests, your physician can evaluate medical causes for your fatigue, including thyroid imbalance, adrenal imbalance, anemia, diabetes, hypoglycemia, infections, sleep apnea, hypertension, hypotension, or other conditions. Even after beginning a medical treatment protocol for one of these conditions, the following steps may assist you. -
Step 2: Set a Schedule
Often, an over-commitment of your time can result in stress and fatigue. Combat any habits of overwhelming yourself with activities or commitments by setting a schedule for yourself. Set times for waking, meals, getting to work, leaving work, exercise, recreation, and going to bed.Create a bed-time ritual to relax yourself before laying down to sleep. Try to avoid any work or distracting activities while in the bedroom. Make it a haven of rest.
Try to get the same amount of sleep every night, including weekends. Avoid caffeine for at least four hours before going to bed and avoid nicotine at or just before bedtime. Avoid exercise for at least three hours prior to going to bed. An absolute minimum of six hours sleep per night is required for repair processes to begin on muscles and body systems. Ideally, you should sleep between seven and a half and ten and a half hours per night. http://www.medicinenet.com/sleep/article.htm
During the day, plan a few minutes each day while at work, on a break, to relax and meditate. If you are able, close your eyes for five minutes and decompress.
-
Step 3: Improve Your Nutrition
Eat a diet full of whole, natural foods. Avoid processed sugars, processed starches, and caffeine. Many people use caffeine as a bolster because they feel fatigued, but it sets up a dependency in the body which actually contributes to fatigue.Because B vitamins and iron can be especially important in regaining energy and stamina, eat lots of green, leafy vegetables. Drink plenty of water (64 ounces at a minimum). Try to maintain balanced electrolytes.
Consider taking multivitamin and mineral supplements or using complimentary holistic techniques to strengthen your body systems and eliminate toxins.

Step 4: Modify Your Surroundings to Modify Your Stress Levels
"Laughter is the best medicine" might be more true than you realized! Laughter releases endorphins, which naturally combat fatigue, depression, and anxiety.http://www.holisticonline.com/Humor_Therapy/humor_therapy_benefits.htm A brisk walk on a fresh sunny day will provide you with deep breathing for better oxygenation of your body, helping to eliminate toxins, as well as providing endorphins from exercise and vitamin D from sunshine. So when you feel tired, consider a walk around the block!http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/exercise/HQ01676Listening to music can improve your mood and reduce stress. Choosing upbeat, faster songs will generally enhance your energy level by increasing your respiration rate and possibly by getting you to move, even if it is just tapping your toes to the beat!
Speaking your mind (declaring your thoughts and opinions to others), if done tactfully, might also decrease stress levels. Communications with others in an honest but respectful fashion might help you modify your work, home, or recreational environments for the better.
Using essential oils for their fragrant effect or diluted in massage oil might assist you in relaxing, releasing stress, and improving your mood. Citrus essential oils are especially good at creating a sense of well-being (although grapefruit essential oil should be avoided if you are on medications as it can intensify medication effects). Lavender essential oil has been shown to be very calming and might be a good choice for your evening wind-down routine. Other essential oil choices to foster a sense of well-being might include bergamot, frankincense, melissa, clary sage, lemongrass, geranium, rose, and cardamom.
