If you have decided to use WordPress.com as your blog host, you will first need to know how to create a WordPress account. WordPress.com is a blogging service which provides both blog platform and hosting for free. The first step in creating a blog through WordPress is creating and setting up a user account. This account will be used to initially create your blog but also to update and make any changes to your blog in the future. Once you have set up a WordPress account you can create and begin updating your blog in a matter of minutes.
How to Create a WordPress Account
This video, featuring Sean Percival, shows the process for creating a new account at WordPress.com. First you must choose a username and password, enter your email address, and read and agree to the terms of service. Then you must choose the domain, title, and searchability of your new blog. Lastly you must verify your email address.
Step 1: Choosing a Username and Password
To create a WordPress account you will need to click on the Sign Up Now button on the WordPress.com homepage. This will take you to the first step of the account creation process. The initial step is to choose a username and password. This step is very important because you will be using these to access your account from now on.
Your username should be something important to you. Keep in mind that your username will also be the address to your blog. Your password should be secure and preferably contain both letters, numbers, and symbols. Choose a password that is not easy to guess because, if someone figures out your password, they will have access to your blog. Enter the username and password that you chose along with your email address. Read the terms of service and check the box if you agree. At the bottom of the page you will want to make sure that the Gimme a blog! option is checked. This will begin setting up your blog for you. Click Next when ready.http://en.wordpress.com/signup/
Step 2: Setting Up Your Blog
The next step in the account creation process is to set up the very basics of your new blog. This page will ask you for the domain of your blog. This is typically set up as http://username.wordpress.com but you can change the name here. You should also enter a title for your blog. Choose the language that you wish to use and decide whether or not you would like your blog to appear in search engines. If you are still working on your blog or wish it to remain private, uncheck this option. You can always change all of these options once you have created your account. Click Next when you are finished.http://en.wordpress.com/signup/
Step 3: Email Verification and Updating Your Profile
The last step in creating a WordPress account is to verify your email address. The email address that you entered on the first page of the sign up process should receive a verification email in a few moments. Visit your mail account and follow the instructions found within the WordPress email. This will verify that the email address you used is correct and accessible and will verify your account for full access to the site.
You can also update your profile at this point. Fill in your first name, last name, and a short blurb about yourself. This bio will become part of your profile and can be changed at any time once you have logged in. Filling out your profile is not necessary at this point but it is a good idea.http://en.wordpress.com/signup/
