How to Cover Freckles With Make Up

Freckles come from heavy pigmentation in the skin. Whether you love them or hate them there are ways to "minimize" their appearance. Find a liquid or cream foundation that matches your skin color and blends well into your cheeks and neck, preferably the same color as your freckles. Try several shades until your happy with the coverage it provides. You may not cover them completely but an even foundation with an SPF of 15 will conceal them and prevent them from getting worse.

Find a full color concealer and finishing powder to minimize freckles as much as possible. The concealer will be the same shade or a bit darker then the foundation. Apply a light translucent powder to finish. If you want to look like a pro use the same methods they do. The translucent powder will give you a clean even finish.

Get The Right Coverage

1. Get the right foundation for your skin. When in doubt visit a skin care counter and speak with a consultant. Whether it's Cover Girl or an anti-aging foundation it will have a built in sunscreen. Make sure it matches your current skin care color and blends well with freckles and other highlights of your face. Try several shades to find the one that suits you best or choose a shade that allows freckles to shine through instead of hiding them. 2. Find a dual finishing powder. You can wear it alone but you'll wear it on the top of your foundation. The powder has a similar tone but is not the same color as the foundation. Use it as a translucent finish that sets the heavier foundation. Apply with a brush to set. 3.Blush will give you an even skin tone. Choose a blush that matches the natural fleshy tones of your skin. Ask the attendant at the cosmetic counter as many questions as you need. Eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick should be carefully selected. Avoid shades darker than your freckles that will bring out the impurities. Eyebrow pencils should match the color of your hair.

Applying The Foundation

Select and apply your liquid or cream foundation. It's helpful to try a few. Make sure you have the shade that complements your skin color, profile, cheeks, and neck best. Apply the foundation with your fingers or sponge. Make up artists recommend a sponge, applying in downward strokes. Apply foundation sparingly on your eyelids to hide noticeable freckles. You'll apply make-up over it at the finish. Apply concealer to problem areas for darker freckles or scars but not to large areas because it will crack. Foundation should minimize problem areas and enhance the best features of your face Smile, you're not done yet but your more than half way through.

Finishing Touches

Apply a "dual" finishing powder to seal the foundation. Apply the powder with a puff. Remember you're looking for a thin sheer layer of powder, not pancaked make-up. Carry powder in a compact for touch ups later in the day or evening. For a more extreme look you can apply the powder to a "sheer" foundation. The point of using the powder is to give a more even, textured tone. Brushing on the similarly colored, translucent powder will blend the foundation with whatever impurities are still visible while evening out the tone of the foundation against your skin. Apply blush to highlight cheeks and compliment the unique silhouette of your face, careful to blend and high light color where color is needed. Avoid an eyeliner that matches or is darker than your freckles. Apply eyeshadow, liner, and mascara as you normally would. Stick to darker toned lipstick: plums, mauves and browns that ideally complement them.
