Tuna is not a very "fishy" fish, and lends itself very well to grilling, broiling, and baking. The preparation for baked tuna takes just minutes, and the tuna bakes in less than 15 minutes.
Step 1: What You Need to Bake Tuna
This baked tuna recipe serves four generously. Make sure you have all ingredients laid out before beginning to cook the tuna.
- 1 3/4 pounds fresh tuna steaks
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 large red onion, sliced very thin
- 4 medium tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and diced
- 1/2 cup dry white wine
- 1 tablespoon fresh basil, minced
Step 2: How to Bake Tuna
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
- Rub the tuna with 1 tablespoon of the olive oil, and season with salt and pepper.
- Place the tuna in a shallow baking dish and set aside.
- Sauté the onion in the remaining tablespoon of olive oil until soft.
- Add the tomatoes, basil, and white wine, and bring to a boil.
- Pour the tomato mixture over the tuna and bake for 12-15 minutes until done.
Step 3: Baked Tuna Variations
- Spread each tuna steak with 1 tablespoon mayonnaise and bake.
- Marinate the tuna for 30 minutes in prepared Italian dressing and bake.
- Add 1/4 cup minced olives to the recipe provided above, at the same time you add the tomatoes.
- Mix two tablespoons parmesan cheese with bread crumbs and sprinkle on the tuna before baking.
