Introduction
- Tilapia was introduced to the United States in 1959. Although found in the wild in some areas of the world, most tilapia in the U.S. is farmed. Its mild taste lends itself well to a variety of preparations.
Step 1: Baked Tilapia
What's Needed
- Cookie sheet
- Cooking spray
- Small bowl and spoon
- Tilapia filets
- Mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon per fillet
- 2 tablespoon of herbs of your choice per fillet
- Salt and pepper
- 1 lemon wedge per fillet
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Mix the mayonnaise, herbs, salt and pepper in a bowl.
- Spray the cookie sheet with cooking spray, and place the fish on the sheet.
- Spread the fish with the mayonnaise mixture.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flaky.
- Serve with a lemon wedge.
Step 2: Tilapia Tips
- Be careful not to overcook the fish. As it is low in fat, it dries out easily.
- Coat tilapia in parmesan cheese or bread crumbs after spreading on the mayonnaise for a tasty crust.
- Marinate tilapia for 30 minutes in Italian dressing and grill for a simple entree.
- Double cooking time if using frozen tilapia.
