Sweet Potato Cooking Tips
This video demonstrates a method for baking sweet potatoes, and also demonstrates how to tell if they are done. The sweet potatoes are wrapped in foil, and slit with a knife. They are then baked for an hour and a half at 350 degrees F. After an hour and a half, the sweet potatoes are unwrapped and pricked with a fork. If the fork goes in easily, the sweet potatoes are done. -
Step 1 : How to Bake Sweet Potatoes
- Preheat the Oven to 375 degrees F.
- Wash the potatoes carefully, and prick the skin with a fork several times.
- Place the sweet potatoes on a cookie sheet, as they occasionally ooze during baking.
- Place the cookie sheet in the oven and bake for about one hour.
- Serve plain, or garnished with butter and brown sugar.

Step 3: How to Fry Sweet Potatoes
- Wash the potatoes and boil for 10 minutes.
- Drain, peel, and slice into 1/8 inch slices.
- Heat 1- 2 inches of oil in a heavy skillet to 375 degrees F.
- place the potato slices in the hot oil, making sugar that they are not crowded, and all slices are completely covered with oil.
- Fry until lightly browned, then remove and drain on paper towels.
- If you're working in batches, keep the drained slices warm on a cookie sheet in the oven until all slices are cooked.
