How to Cook Rice

Rice is a tall crop grown in many tropical countries. It was originally cultivated without submersion, but mutations and cross-breeding led to new and improved varieties. Rice can grow in diverse conditions, but thrives more vigorously in wet and warm environments.http://unctad.org/infocomm/anglais/rice/characteristics.htm

Nowadays, there are two major rice varieties that are grown and cultivated worldwide- the Oryza Sativa Indica and Oryza Sativa Japonica. In some cultures, rice is not just a staple or a commodity, but symbols of fertility and luck.http://www.rice-trade.com/origin-history-of-rice.html

How to Cook Rice

First, place a cup of long-grain California rice into a pot and add some water. The ideal ratio would be one part of rice to two parts of water. However, you can vary the ratio and use about 2/3 cups of water. Add some salt.

Bring the mixture to a boil. Once it starts boiling, set the heat to low and keep the lid on. Do not stir. It will take around 25-30 minutes to fully cook. Once it’s cooked, take the pot off the stove, add in a slice of butter and salt to the rice and mix using a fork.
