How to Cook Lamb Chops

What You'll Need

  • Lamb chops
  • Lemon
  • Garlic cloves, chopped
  • Fresh or dried rosemary
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Canola oil
  • Medium bowl
  • Burner
  • Frying pan

Step 1: Marinate the Meat

  1. In the bowl, prepare the marinade by combining the lemon juice, chopped garlic and rosemary. 
  2. Marinate the lamb chops in the bowl for two hours. 
  3. When the chops are done marinating, remove them from the bowl and place them on a paper towel. Rub off all the garlic and rosemary. 

Step 2: Cook the Meat

  1. Heat the frying pan on medium high.
  2. Heat the butter and oil together in the frying pan. 
  3. Place the lamb chops in the pan when it is hot. The pan is ready when liquid splashes off of it.
  4. Cooking times will vary depending on the thickness of the meat. On average, cook for four minutes per side or longer for well-done meat. 
  5. Flip the meat when blood rises to the top of the uncooked side. 
  6. The lamb chops are done when they start to turn dark brown. 

Sauteed Lamb Chop Variations

  • Top the chops with a fruit chutney.c
  • Add yogurt sauce for a Greek influence.c
  • Season your chops with curry for an added kick. c

Cooking Variations

Grilled Lamb Chopsc
  1. Prepare meat with desired marinade, rub or sauce.
  2. Preheat a grill on high heat.
  3. Lightly coat the grill grate with oil.
  4. Grill lamb chops for three to five minutes on each side for medium rare. 
Oven-baked Lamb Chopsc
  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232ºC)
  2. Heat one tablespoon olive oil in an oven-proof skillet over medium heat.
  3. Sear lamb chops until they're golden brown, two minutes on each side.
  4. Take the pan off the stove and transfer to the oven.
  5. Let the lamb chops cook for eight to 10 minutes.
  6. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.
Broiled Lamb Chopsc
  1. Preheat the broiler.
  2. Arrange lamb chops on the broiler pan.
  3. Broil four to five minutes on each side for medium rare, until the chops are browned. Serve with sauce or seasoning.
