What You'll Need
- Cutting board
- Rolled up towel
- Large chef's knife
Prefect the Technique
Using your rolled up towel to to use as a barrier to catch any nuts that may fly away from you as you chop them, place your middle, ring and pinky finger around the handle of your knife and place your thumb and forefinger around the part where the blade meets the handle. As you cut, keep the front of the blade on the cutting board at all times as you rock the back of the blade to chop the nuts. Use a forward downward motion to do this.
As you chop, keep your other hand over the nuts with your fingertips curled under to avoid injury. Once you have finished the first pass with your knife, gather the nuts together and chop a second time. Once this is done, change your knife grip so you are holding the top of blade with the fingertips of both hands, and press down across the nuts with the blade, watching for any that may be on the larger side as you chop.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji2ouxQQCE8
