Introduction
There are many variations of how to cook a New York strip steak. For example, you could cook it in the oven under the broiler or you can cook it on an outside grill. It could also be cooked on an inside grill, provided you have one. However, most people prefer that outdoor grilled taste when savoring a steak cooked at home. So fire up the grill and let's get started! -
Step 1: Meat Selection
Select the best quality meat to get the best quality results. It all starts with the meat, so don't skimp there. It is true, you get what you pay for. Some quality steaks can be purchased over the Internet and delivered through express services like Fed Ex or UPS. Omaha Steaks is one such vendor of great steak products. Whether you buy locally or online, be sure you are getting quality meat. -
Step 2: Preparation
If you have frozen meat, thaw it in the refrigerator for 24 or so prior to your cooking time. You will want to bring the meat to an even temperature prior to cooking. To do this, you will want to set it out for about an hour before throwing it on the grill. During this time it should be marinating. Prep the meat first by rubbing down with a little cooking oil to prevent the salt from drawing the moisture out of the meat. Add a little salt and pepper as well as garlic if you like it - but don't over do it! A New York strip steak has a flavor all it's own and you don't want to ruin it with too many seasonings. -

Step 3: Cooking
If you are using a propane grill, make sure it is on high and ready to go. When using charcoal you want to make sure that your coals are glowing hot before throwing on the steak. Cooking time over this type of heat should be 3-4 minutes per side for a medium done steak. If you want to get more precise, you can measure the temperature with a meat thermometer. Medium steak is done at 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Adjust your time and temperature based on your desired results. -
