Mahalo's cooking expert Scott Aaronson shows you the steps for cleaning your food processor.
Cleanliness is Key
- Most of the parts of a food processor are made of plastic, so it's important to handle them with care.
- Clean the parts properly to avoid damage that will make the processor leak or crack.
- In general, hand washing is the best method to clean the parts. Only put them in the dishwasher if your processor specifically states that the parts are dishwasher safe. If you do use a dishwasher, put the parts on the top shelf to prevent damage from the machine's heat.
- It's best to rinse off the parts immediately after use so that food won't harden onto them.
Steps for Proper Cleaning
Base: Use a damp cloth to wipe down the outside of the base and body. Never place it under running water at risk of damaging the electrical parts.
- Bowl, lid and pusher asssembly: Rinse off the plastic parts with warm, soapy water and use a scrubbing brush to remove any leftover ingredients.
- Blades: Use caution when cleaning your food processor's sharp blades. Rinse them with warm, soapy water and use a scrubbing brush with a handle to remove any food.
- Slicing and shredding discs: Rinse the attachment discs with warm, soapy water and then scrub them with a brush to remove any food.
