Step 1: Open Your Facebook Profile
- In order to update your Facebook status, you must be log into the site by entering your user ID and password on www.facebook.com. You will then be directed to your home page.
Step 2: Locate the Box for Your Status
- In a recent Facebook redesign, the status update prompt changed from a text link asking "What are you doing right now?" to a text box titled "What's on your mind?" You will find this box at the top center of your homepage, just to the right of your profile picture thumbnail.
Step 3: Decide What You Want Your Update to Be
- Facebook status updates can be anything you want them to be. Good status updates tell your friends what you might be doing, what is on your mind at the time, provide them with an amusing statement or prompt them to think about an issue. The goal is to write a status update that your friends will want to read and read more of, so that they don't hit that pesky "hide" button.
Step 4: Post Your Status Update
- Submitting your status update so everyone can read it is easy. Simply type the status update you have decided upon into the "What's on your mind?" textbox. Click "Share." Your status is now updated for all of your friends to see!
