If you play guitar, you will eventually have a string snap, break or wear out. When this happens, you will need to remove the old string and attach a new one. Read this guide on how to change guitar strings for help.

Step 1: Remove Old Strings
- Lay guitar flat
- Start with the lowest string
- Loosen the tuning peg to fully slacken string
- Unravel the string from the peg
- Remove the bridge pin to release the string
Step 2: Attach New Strings
- Unwind string
- Find the end with a small ball attached
- Slip this end into the appropriate bridge hole
- Replace bridge pin
- Pull string gently to pop ball into place
- At the other end of the guitar (the headstock), pull string to about an inch past the tuning peg
- Bend the last inch of the string towards the tuning peg at a sharp angle
- Turn the tuner so that the hole faces the end of the string
- Slide string through the hole, stopping at the bend
- Turn the peg counter-clockwise
- After string has wrapped around once, keep turning, crossing over the first loop of string to help it stay in place
- Continue tightening, but do not cross over any more string
Step 3: Tune
With a tuning fork, electric tuner, or online tuner (there are plenty of free versions available), find the correct pitch of your string. Adjust the tuning peg to match the sound. Sometimes pegs may stick, adn become difficult to tune. When this happens, rubbing lava soap (which is available at most supermarkets) will help them move more smoothly.Once you have achieved the desired tone from your string, give the peg a firm but gentle push inwards to set in place and reduce slippage. Then continue on to the rest of the strings.
