In the world of astrology, the term horoscope is used to refer to a chart or diagram that is representative of the positions of planets, stars and important angles of celestial bodies that may harbor some meaning for certain periods of time and events, like a child's birth.
The word horoscope comes from the Greek words horoskopos and horoskopoi, which mean "a look at the hours" or "markers of the hour". Horoscopes may be referred to by other terms like: cosmogram, star-chart, natal chart, astro-chart, celestial map, sky map, natus, Vitasphere, radix, soulprint, or others. Introduction
To cast a horoscope, the astrologer uses an ephemeris and a table of houses to determine the geocentric positions of the Sun, Moon and other planets as they were during a particular time and place (usually a birth date and birthplace). The diagram that is created from this information is called a chart. If the ephemeris is heliocentric, the Sun will be at the center of the chart. Alternatively, a geocentric ephemeris will result in the Earth being at the chart's center. -
Step 1: Create the Framework that Includes the Twelve Houses of the Zodiac
The signs of the zodiac will go on top of this. When you are doing an equal house system, the cusp that exists between any two houses will lie at the same degree for each individual sign. The rest of the planets, lunar nodes, ascendant, midheaven, and all of the astrological houses surround the center. -
Step 2: Determine the Longitude to Calculate the Position of the Ascendant
When you are doing a house system that includes the effects of the intersecting angle between the horizon planes and the ecliptic, you will need to also know the latitude of the event you are doing the horoscope for. There are tables you can use to determine this, but these days, most astrologers use readily available computer programs to calculate this. -
Step 3: Place the Sun, Moon and Planets at the Correct Longitudes
After you have determined the positions of the signs in the houses, place the sun, moon and planets in their correct longitudes - meaning the approximate placements they were in for the particular event you are casting the horoscope for. Make sure your placements are accurate, then analyze your findings. -
Step 4: Analyse the Aspects and Relative Angles Between Pairs of Planets
Complete the horoscope by analyzing the aspects and relative angles that exist between pairs of planets. The mainly used aspects are Conjunction, Opposition, Square, Trine, Sextile, Semi-Square, Sesqisquare, and Quincux. -
