Introduction
- MySpace offers several alternatives for those who want to cancel an account, making it easy for people to leave if they choose to. But before you cancel your account, make sure you do want to leave and that there are no other options to cancellation that would work better for you.
Step 1: Before Canceling
- There are several steps you should take before you cancel your MySpace account.
- Make sure that you want to cancel the account first. Cancellation is permanent and your information will be deleted.
- Be aware that cancellation could take a day or two.
- Let your friends know that you will be canceling your account. If you made new friends on MySpace, let them know of ways to contact your once your account is closed.
Step 2: Options to Cancellation
- If you are having doubts about canceling your account, consider changing your account settings to private to hide your profile.
- You can do this temporarily or permanently.
- You need to be using MySpace 2.0 to do so.
- Select Customize Profile from the profile settings.
- Choose Just Me - Apply to all Modules. Select Apply Changes and then Publish.
- Note that your image and basic information, such as age and name, will still be displayed.
- If you don't have MySpace 2.0, you can change to 2.0 first. Select More in the navigation bar, and choose Customize Profile. Select Switch to profile 2.0.

Step 3: Standard Cancellation
- The typical way of canceling an account is to click on My Account in the upper right corner of the page.
- Select Account.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select Account Cancellation.
- MySpace will send you an email. You will need to click on a link in to cancel the account.
Step 4: Alternative Cancellation
- There are several options to cancel a MySpace account if you don't have access to your email account or MySpace account.
- If you are able to log into your MySpace account, Select Profile - Edit Profile. Remove all the information about yourself in the About Me box and type in Remove Profile instead. Type in Contact MySpace on the right and ask MySpace to remove your profile. You will need to type in your friend ID and URL.
Step 5: Make a Salute
- If you cannot delete the account in the above ways or cannot log in to your profile at all, make a salute to MySpace and ask them to delete it.
- To confirm your identity, MySpace requires you to include a picture of yourself holding a piece of paper with your friend ID and vanity profile ID written on it. The picture needs to clearly display your face.
- Select contact MySpace and follow the instructions. Attach the salute and explain in the comment box why you are sending it.
