Introduction
- Refurbished items are those that have been returned to the retailer or manufacturer for repairs. Once they have been repaired, they are often resold at a substantially reduced price. Although refurbished video game consoles may have minor cosmetic damage and will not come with the same warranty as a new consoles, the inexpensive price may make it worth your while to consider buying refurbished. This is especially true for the Xbox, since the system and games are no longer in production, so refurbished systems are selling through some retailers for $50 or less.
Step 1: Where to Buy
- Since the Xbox system is several years old and has been replaced by Microsoft's next generation system, the Xbox 360, refurbished systems are no longer available through the manufacturer. There are, however, several places to check, both local and online, where you may be able to find a refurbished Xbox for sale, including:
- Local video game and/or computer stores
- Online auction sites, such as eBay
- Local classified listings and Craigslist
- Online video games retailers, such as GameStop
- Other online shopping sites, including Amazon.com and Overstock.com
- Buyout retailers
Step 2: Know What You're Getting
- Because you're buying a previously used system, it may not come with the same accessories and documentation that a new system would. For instance, the system may be missing the original box, instruction manual and may or may not come with controllers. Although buying refurbished can be a great way to get package deals, which may include several controllers and games with the system, other key system components may be missing. The system will also likely not be covered by a warranty, so if anything goes wrong with the console, you will be responsible to pay for any repairs or replacement. Therefore, ensure that you understand and are comfortable with all the sale terms before completing your purchase.
