Building a computer yourself can be a great way to save money, (if you want a basic computer), or a way to meet your specific requirements (if you want an advanced computer with specific features). Building a computer yourself will also help you to understand how computers in general work as well as the components of your computer in case it needs updates or repairs later on. This guide is an introduction on how to build a computer.

Introduction
- Building a computer allows you to have complete control over the features and specifications and not have to pay extra for what you don't need or add upgrades not included in an assembled computer.
Step 1: Planning the Computer
- Before you start building a computer, make a detailed plan for what type of computer you want to build and what features and specifications you will need. These are some components you will need:
- Motherboard and CPU (Central Processing Unit). The motherboard should support the CPU and the other components of the computer, such as the memory, case, graphics card and other components.
- Case of the computer
- A power supply, if it's not included with the case
- Memory. There are different types of computer memory. The most common one is RAM.
- A hard drive, which stores the computer's information
- An operating system
- A disk drive
- A video card, unless you will be using a video included with the motherboard
Step 2: Purchasing the Parts
- Computer parts can be bought from many different retailers.
- You can buy computer parts online from a variety of stores.
- You can also buy computer parts from specialized retailers such as Fry's or Comp USA or smaller stores specialized in computer hardware.
- Many general retailers, such as larger department stores, will sell some computer hardware.
Step 3: Assembling the Computer
- It's now time to assemble the computer. Make sure you are familiar with the steps you need to take to protect yourself from static shock, such as grounding yourself. Follow the instructions for each component. This is a general order of the assembling process:
- Install the motherboard first.
- Install the RAM.
- Assemble the case.
- Install the hard drive.
- Install the mouse, speakers and keyboard.
- Turn on the computer. If you hear a noise from the fans and hard drive, and something happening on the monitor, everything is most likely working. Otherwise you will need to trouble shoot.
- Install the operating system.
