How To Book Cheap International Flights

Booking a flight used to be a hassle, but now thanks to the internet, we can not only book our flights in a low-stress fashion, but can also shop around for the best deals. Learning how to book cheap international flights will be a big help as well. No more sitting on hold for hours or making a million phone calls; nothing but smooth sailing from here. If you feel the need to have more resources than most, or are just on the go and short on time, you can always also use online travel agencies.

Most airlines nowadays charge luggage fees, but also offer discounts for booking early and some will, from time to time, have online coupons for promotional purposes. Keep in mind that these are a bit harder to find, however. As long as you’ve got all of your details lined up on paper or in your head such as when you will be flying, if you are flying with children, etcetera, it will be that much simpler to find what your are looking for. Also, shopping around may take a bit more time, it will help you find the best deal in the end. So don’t be discouraged if the first airline you look at is out of your price range. There are always more options there for you!

Step 1: Dates

You will need to know the exact dates you wish to depart and return, if you will be returning at all. This way, when you book your flight you will know if the airline with the best price has room on your desired date, or will need to move you to another flight. This shouldn’t happen as long as you try your hardest to avoid holidays and weekends, as flights tend to be a bit more expensive and more crowded as well. If for some reason you must reschedule, you will need to make arrangements accordingly. For example, reschedule the babysitter, make your employer aware of the change in plans, etcetera.

If you are planning on flying with others and are purchasing the tickets all at once, you may want to check out the group rates that some airlines offer. Also, if you are flying with children, they will usually get a lower rate, depending on age. However, some airlines will not offer the additional discount for early booking on their tickets. The discount for booking early will usually be around about one hundred dollars. Sometimes you will just need to know all of your details in order to get the best rate at the best time for you.

Step 2: Budget

If you have a set budget or are planning on creating one, you will want to write it down and put it somewhere that you will see it when booking your flight. You will also want to write down the prices including luggage fees and/or any discounts you may be able to get for each company. This way, later on down the line when you are making your comparisons, you have something physical to look at. Many airlines will offer a discount for booking your flight early. Most have a minimum of two weeks in advance, so just to be safe; you may want to try to book about a month ahead if possible.

If you are traveling internationally and do not already have a passport that will need to be added to your expenses as well as moved to the top of your to-do list. Also, if you will be flying with the family pet, you will need to look up what that fee is and you will most likely be required to purchase the appropriate carrying case if you do not already own one. Once you have found the best price, including other expenses, you are going to want to write down what will be your departure date and, more importantly, your departure time.

Step 3: Preparing and Some Extra Help

If at this point, you are still finding yourself a bit stuck, you may want to look at some travel agencies, online or off, as they may help you in finding a better deal than you may be able to on your own. All of your research may come in handy when going about it this way, as some may try to only get you what they say is the best deal. If you have found something cheaper, they’ll back down and may even get you a cheaper deal than that. Some good places to start may be Priceline, Travelocity and/or Hotwire www.priceline.com, www.travelocity.com, www.hotwire.com. Keep in mind these are not the only ones and are certainly not the last word in travel, but they are a good starting point.

Once you have found your great deal, you are ready for your pre-flight preparation. Making a checklist of things you need to remember to pack is always helpful. Also, if your luggage is ready and sitting by the door the night before you depart, you will be a little less stressed the day of your trip. Also, you may want to set a few alarms or reminders the day before and the day of. If you think there will be even the slightest bit of traffic, you should plan to compensate for that as well.
