Introduction
- Volumes have been written about how to make yourself more beautiful. Discovering the right skin cream, the perfect lipstick, and the chicest clothing are supposed solutions. But these superficial fixes won't do it for you.
- The only way to make yourself truly beautiful is to start within. We've all seen her -- the woman who wears no makeup and only the simplest of clothing...but who is riveting: You just can't take your eyes off of her. Something about the way she carries herself suggests a confidence, a self-assurance, a deep-seated faith in herself and her abilities, that makes her absolutely irresistible. And may inspire envy in you.
- To find that kind of undeniable beauty -- the inner kind -- follow these steps:
-
Step 1: Cultivate Your Spirit
- Discover what you really love and start doing it
- Brainstorm for a few hours, a day, or even a week. Is there anything you love so well it makes you lose track of time? It could be cycling, playing music, solving crossword puzzles, or simply taking care of your kids.
- Don't dismiss any idea. If something pops into your head you've never before considered, don't reject it. Write it down and let the thoughts and images keep flowing.
- Settle on a single field of activity.
- Start engaging in the activity, allowing yourself to become completely absorbed in it. Whether it's once a day, once a week, or even once a month, set aside time to actively pursue your passion. Every moment spent in bliss -- that is, pursuing your passion -- is time spent developing the spirit, without which true beauty, inner beauty, is not attainable.
-
Step 2: Protect Your SpirIt
- Guard your new commitment to yourself from poison thoughts
- Avoid naysayers. You'll never run short of folks who are quick to tell you what you cannot do, what's beyond your reach, how foolish you'll look for trying -- at your age, at your level of experience, with your heretofore latent abilities. Put those voices at an extreme distance --- and keep on pursuing your passion.
- Silence your inner critic. The kind of confidence that creates that inner glow cannot be cultivated while you're putting yourself down, about your looks, your abilities, your weight or anything else. Everyone has moments of self-doubt, but your job is to let go of all the harsh criticisms you reserve for yourself, in short, to stop being your own worst enemy
- Let go of envy. All the energy and attention you give to being jealous of others, whether because of their looks, their talents, their financial status, or their fame -- is energy you could be spending creating a life that will make you deeply satisfied, and help you to convey that inner glow.
- Avoid negative gossip. Speaking harshly of others will not enhance the spirit.
-
Step 3: Accept Yourself (and Others)
- Embrace your seeming imperfections
- Let go of that long list of things you don't like about your looks.
- Put away thoughts of not being good enough.
- Forget about fitting in. If you happen to fit in to a group, great. But if you don't, remember that every individual has a unique purpose. If who and what you are does not fit the norm, then you were not intended to suit the norm. Focus on what you love most, and keep moving forward.
- Keep in mind, the opinions of others are no more important than you make them.
- Do unto others...Treat people well and try not to judge them. Most folks are just doing the best they can.
-
Conclusion
- Follow these steps, and little by little, you will see changes in yourself, and changes in your self-image. Becoming beautiful within takes commitment; it won't happen overnight. But little by little, you'll become so sure of yourself and powerful in spirit, that adhering to an outside standard of beauty won't even cross your mind. On that day -- and you'll know when it happens -- you will have achieved true beauty.
