How To Become an Anaheim Power Player

So You Think You Can (Ice) Dance?

The Anaheim Power Players are the softer side and prettier face of the National Hockey League team the Anaheim Ducks. The Power Players are not just professional cheerleaders, but are representatives of the Anaheim team that go out into the public on various promotional opportunities and special events. When in attendance at the games at the The Rinks within the Honda Center, the Power Players are out greeting fans as they enter, and performing on the ice at the various intermissions of the game. It's a job that is not for the faint of heart or wallflowers, and is going to take an outgoing, vivacious personality that shines both on and off the ice.

But that is you, isn't it? It's why you want to learn How to become an Anaheim Power Player! Or perhaps you are just curious as to how the process of a professional spokesmodel/representative is chosen out of the applications of hundreds of young ladies who think they have what it takes to be out on the ice having fun and showing off their mind-blowing moves. In either case, this how-to is here to get you started in becoming an Anaheim Power Player! Here's the path you might expect in three steps:

Step 1: Fill out the Application

Everyone has to start somewhere, and to be a Power Player, the start is similar to most positions of employment, and that is with paperwork. The Power Players, have four forms; the employee application, the equal employment opportunity (EEO) survey, the waiver and release agreement, and the emergency contact form. The biggest ally to filling these forms out will be a comprehensive resume, as once you have all your information in one place, it becomes glorified copy work.

Once all the paperwork has been completed and accepted, consider preparing for a panel interview and think of the questions someone may ask once they review your work and school history. Try to spot possible weak areas and create answers that are honest replies followed by a statement that puts a positive spin on a strength. As soon as this self-analysis is complete, it is recommended that practicing the interview with willing friends and family will polish your performance in front of the panel judges. Be sure to ask for constructive criticism from the listeners, as they may be able to point out areas and issues that you may have overlooked in your own analysis.

Now that you are ready for the presentation of your character, the next step is to balance that out with body!

Step 2: Get Set to Make Some Noise

As a future Power Player, it's going to take some extra effort in and out of the fitness club to prepare for the role. While it's not an initial requirement, sooner or later Power Players are out on the ice rallying the fans of Anaheim, and that's going to take some skating. If you are casual ice skater, you are going to want to put in a few laps at a local ice rink. If you never have skated or are rusty at it, investing in lessons will be critical to making the team. Power Players wear hockey skates as a rule, so an initial investment may need to be made in new or used skates before hitting the ice. Getting "skating legs" is going to be good exercise to start with, and will certainly work the legs as well as the lower core of the body. Build on that with running for stamina and swimming for that lean, tone look. The outfits that are worn out in the crowd and on the ice are form fitting and leaves little possibility to cover any flabby areas. Do not neglect the upper body in favor of the lower body and tighten up the arms with free weights. Crunch work will be critical in working the entire core and it may help to consider different exercises (e.g. Six Pack workout).

Step 3: The Audition...Time to Throw Down!

So you are toned and tight...you got the interview down, so now what? It's time for audition day! Auditions are held at The Rinks and are usually limited to about one hundred young ladies all looking for a spot on the ice under the lights. Judges look for charisma and outgoing personalities so don't leave that at home. Once the interviews by panel are completed it's out to the ice for a little warming up and some drills to test the skills of skating. As mentioned previously, skating experience is not required as of the 2009-10 hockey season, but understand that they will want Players who have an aggressive attitude to learn how.

For those fortunate to pass the first interview, call backs for a second interview occur usually in the next week to further winnow the field of contenders. At the second interview, applicants learn if they are officially on the team and then are set up, usually in the next week, for uniform fitting and then get the appointments for the official Power Players team calendar shoot.

So if you are one of the few that are being fitted and photographed, congratulations! Being a Power Player and a representative of the Anaheim Ducks will hopefully be an exciting and entertaining opportunity for you as well as the fans you will inspire.http://ducks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=62681
