Becoming a Translator
This video discusses what one does as a certain type of translator for the United Nations. The woman interviewed here is a record's translator for the General Assembly meetings that are held in New York City. She translates the meetings into Spanish in ten-minute increments. The woman describes a typical day for her, including waking up and watching the news so that she is prepared for the types of things that might be discussed in the meetings she translates throughout the day.

Introduction
- Anyone who's used an online translator tool knows that machines have a long way to go before they catch up with good old fashioned human translation services. If you have a passion for language and think you'd like to pursue a career as a translator, here is what you'll need to do.
Step 1: Learn a Language
- It's an obvious first step, but you'll need to be fluent in at least two languages.
- Choose a language (or many languages) that you want to learn.
- Take classes at your school/college.
- Earn a degree in a foreign language.
- Live with native speakers of your second language for a while.
